"On Facing the Truth"

The dead of countless armies lay
They fell in battle one fine day
The press that told us went away
Lifeless forms in the field still stayed.

The war has ended,
peace has come
Trees and flowers from rubble sprung
Songs of nation's joy have been sung
Tears from handkerchiefs were wrung.

More time has passed,
some thoughts have changed
Memories have been rearranged
Though now it may seem very strange
To say that nations now must change.

The living must make peace with dead
"We must account for all, " we've said
For all the years and tears we've shed
We must go back, to move ahead.

All nations share the blame you see
No matter loss or victory
Dead die until eternity
Wherever their resting place might be.

We can't go through if the door is closed
Won't find the truth that no one knows
Must put to rest what some oppose
To finish counting all of those.

Remember in each country died
The children of that nation's pride
This simple fact won't be denied
No matter how long some have tried.

Honor the deaths of all who died!
It's time that now all nations tried
To value all the tears we've cried
For children of our nations' pride.

We won't count all, 'til we count as friends
On this our future may depend
Our hopes and dreams together blend
To help, at last, that war to end.
