“Haven’t Seen You Around”

In Sixteen hundred Eighty
The DoDo went away
And in a small museum,
You can see it still today
Then every year thereafter,
There were more who were no more
The memories of how they looked
Were pictures from before.
The world is fuller than before
With less than started here
There’s less on land
And in the sea
Or in the sky that soar.
And though we look before us
Far less remains behind
The more you look for what is here
The less that you will find.
The greatest sadness that I know
Is a house that's standing bare
With the absence of it’s living heart
And nothing living there.
See the sign that’s hanging
Hanging on the door?
“Nothing you remember
Lives here any more.”
Is this the future of our world
A shrinking fullness find
Of more who look like you and me
And less of Nature’s kind?
Are we to just face mirrors all
Reflections in our mind
Forget Creation’s varied life
When we are left behind?
