"The Reader" Frank Weston Benson 1910

"Anywhere and Everywhere"

I watched you as you read today
I saw you whisk a leaf away.
The breeze that caused your curl to stray
To say "I Love You." That's my way.

Beyond the corner of your eye
Outside your vision's sight I try.
To keep a watch, and you know why
Our Love remains, it can not die.

We are as one, though we're apart
Our bodies only, not our hearts.
They joined together, at the start
That love once joined, shall not depart.

Your smile beamed as you turned around
Though no one there, a puzzle found.
I hid and did not make a sound
You knew, because our hearts are bound.

So Dearest Heart, I'm everywhere
Though I am here, I'm also there.
Though you can find me anywhere
I'd show myself, if I but dared.

It's not too late for us, you know
Perhaps it's just our time to grow.
So we can reap what now we sow
To hold Love fast, we must let go.

For Love like ours won't fly away
Though free to go, it always stayed.
That's why I said those words today
When Love's breath tossed your curls astray.
