"The First of May"
There are those fears that we won't name
That come to haunt our dreams again
When they arise from where they've lain
The aching heart, the soul in pain.
For now a coolness lingers still
Creeps in at night through time worn sill
While flowers bright on yonder hill
Last holes of Winter start to fill.
Yet shines this day with flowers bright
That touch the heart and fill our sight
Perhaps they say that "All is right.
You've passed the cold and chill of night."
What now sweet flower, this new day
In blossom fresh, the First of May
With colors bright that seem to say,
"Cold of Winter has gone away."
"Rejoice, shake off the final frost
There must not be a moment lost
Consider not last season's cost
The senseless game of Pitch and Toss.
So Sun and Blossom's bright new day
You've come to chase the cold away
And "Yes" your message seems to say.
"Life's Love is in our hearts to stay."
